THE TRAVELLER'S JOURNAL · PLACES TO DISCOVER

Momigno: a scenic viewpoint, a little village and the pleasure of simple things.

Sometimes the first discoveries of a journey are the ones waiting for us just a short distance from home.

Momigno, a view across the landscape of the Pistoia Mountains.

When a guest asks us where to begin exploring the area around Un Riflesso nel Mondo, Momigno is one of the first places that comes to mind.

A moment to take in the view

There's a scenic viewpoint here, right beside the Il Focolare restaurant. It's an invitation to stop, look out over the landscape and spend a few minutes without watching the clock.

After all, not every stop on a journey needs a packed schedule. Sometimes finding a pleasant spot and simply enjoying it is enough.

A little village and its traditions

Momigno also has a small medieval centre, offering another glimpse into the identity of this part of Tuscany.

One local event worth knowing about is Medioevalia, a celebration inspired by the atmosphere and traditions of the past. If you're planning a summer visit, it's worth checking the dates for the current edition.

Walking trails and little routes to explore

For those who enjoy walking, Momigno has more to offer. Several routes in the area are signposted as part of the "Le porte di Marliana" project, designed to help visitors discover local villages, nature and landscapes.

Among them is the Sentiero dei borghi (Village Trail), connecting Momigno, Macchia Antonini, Calamecca, Serra Pistoiese and Femminamorta. The Sentiero della pietra (Stone Trail) passes through Avaglio and Serra Pistoiese before heading back towards Momigno.

The Sentiero della castagna (Chestnut Trail) runs through Femminamorta, Avaglio, Montagnana and Momigno. The local information board also lists mountain-bike and road-cycling routes.

Before setting off, we always recommend checking the latest route information and choosing a trail suited to your experience and fitness level.

Little conveniences that make you feel at home

Momigno isn't just a destination for a walk. The village also has a restaurant, a bar, a grocery shop, a post office and a small children's playground.

There is also a bus stop in the village, which may be useful for anyone interested in travelling by public transport. For routes and timetables, it's always best to check the latest information from the transport operator.

Simple details, of course. But when you're staying somewhere new, knowing where to find a coffee, something to eat or a place for little ones to play can make a real difference.

A LITTLE TIP FROM YOUR HOSTS

If you've just arrived, Momigno could be one of your first stops: take in the view, wander through the village and perhaps pause for a coffee. A journey can begin just like that.

We like to think that getting to know a place also means discovering its simplest pleasures. And often, those are the things we remember most.
